8 Technology Apps Everyone Should Use

Craig Pollack | Jul 31, 2018

Technology applications (technology apps) for smartphones and other mobile devices have become a part of everyday life for many users. The broad category of “mobile apps” can include tech apps for iPhone, Android devices, Windows, and other platforms.

There are many tech applications — with options ranging from recreational apps and fitness apps to entertainment and professional apps. In fact, there were 2.1 million iOS mobile apps available in the Apple App Store for iPhones, iPads, or both as of March 2018. And, that’s just Apple — Google Play is reported to have 3.6 million mobile apps available in its virtual store. While there may be some overlap between the two platforms, there also are apps that are created for just one platform or the other.

As IT services and IT security experts, we’ve put together a list of our favorite technology apps. We based our list of mobile apps on the usefulness of the tech apps, as well as the protections and data that they offer users when they’re on the go.

FPA’s List of 8 GREAT Technology Related Apps

1. Genius Scan

This mobile app is a self-proclaimed “scanner in your pocket.” Available on iOS and Android, Genius Scan is a free tech app that has a 4.7 out of 5-star rating on the Apple Store and Google Play. One of the best apps to use at no cost, it allows you to quickly scan documents when you are on-the-go and send them as PDFs or JPEG image files.

2. Lookout

Lookout is one of the best apps for safety and identity protection that is available for free in the Apple Store or on Google Play. Have you found yourself in a meeting or situation where you needed to share your screen but couldn’t? This mobile tech app, Mirroring Assist, works in conjunction with Mirroring360 screen mirroring software (which is sold separately) to allow you to do just that. Mirroring Assist enables you to discover and connect more easily from your iOS devices to a Windows or Apple Mirroring360 receiver computer through the use of a Mirroring ID or QR code. Both the Mirroring Assist and Mirroring360 tech apps are available for download through the Apple Store and Google Play.

6. Eero

Available in the Apple Store and on Google Play, this is one of those tech apps that is quick to set up and performs automatic updates and enables you to monitor your network from virtually anywhere.

7. Umbrella

Umbrella is one of those great iPhone apps that speeds up your web browsing navigation. However, it’s precisely that — an app that’s only available in the Apple Store for iOS devices (various models of iPhones and iPads). This mobile tech app allows users to browse the internet faster and while consuming less device battery life and data. It comes equipped with a content blocker that filters ad content.

8. Duo Mobile

Duo Mobile is one of the best apps on our list.
