Donate: FPA strongly believes in assisting those less fortunate whenever
possible. It is in this spirit that we have investigated alternatives
for donating older computer equipment. Generally, any computers that are less than 4 years old or any working printers, monitors and fax machines will usually be accepted for donation. The accompanying list represents
several alternatives for donating older computers, monitors, printers,
and related equipment. Each of the organizations have different requirements
(i.e. some will only accept equipment of a certain quality), different
capabilities (some will pickup the equipment, some require drop-off),
and different tax implications (some provide a written “tax deductible” receipt and others provide different types of documentation).
Most local elementary, middle, and high schools accept donated computer equipment.
Recycle/Dispose: In some cases donating the used equipment is not an option. Whether because of irreparable damage or obsolescence, the used equipment may instead need to be disposed of and/or recycled. The accompanying list provides several alternatives for safely and legally disposing of unwanted hardware.
We will continue to update this page, so we welcome any recommendations
you may have. In addition, we also welcome any feedback (good and
bad) about your experiences with these organizations. We have worked
with each
of these in various capacities but are always interested in other
experiences
as well.
