Another problem with Windows XP Service Pack 3 has reared its ugly head, this time causing headaches for users of Symantec products. Unfotunately, it appears that other users are being affected as well and that the problem appears eerily similar to an issue that Microsoft had with Service Pack 2. The two processes to watch for processor hogging on are fixccs.exe and cscript.exe. The problem can cause Device Manager to appear blank and can also produce thousands of errant registry entries.
Two highly targeted e-mail attacks on individuals at corporations cropped up on Monday. In both cases, the e-mails contained malicious attachments that could lead to the recipient's system being taken over.

Adobe has fessed up to a dangerous code execution vulnerability affecting software programs installed on millions of Windows machines. The flaw, publicly disclosed more than three weeks ago, could allow hackers to use rigged PDF files to take control of Window XP computers with Internet Explorer 7 installed.
I get more than my share of unwanted e-mail messages of all types, but a new (to me at least) scam appeared in my in-box today. The subject was "New User Letter" and the message appears below with the ID numbers changed as a precaution.
