Happy New Year!

Wow! I still have a hard time writing 2013 on my dates. It's hard to believe, but we're really here! Between the Mayan prediction and the Fiscal Cliff, it seemed like 2013 just wasn't going to happen. But, as they say, "today is the first day of the rest of your life" and with all of this nonsense behind us, we're looking forward to 2013 like never before.

Historically, the end of the year is usually the slowest time of the year for us. This is when many clients are on vacation, budgets have been spent, and it just seems that a lot of businesses are on cruise control. At FPA, this is the time when we leverage our available resources to invest in ourselves. Over the last few months we've been busy. We moved into our new office space, implemented some strategic initiatives, upgraded some on premise infrastructure, increased our cloud "infrastructure", upgraded our remote monitoring and management system, and attained some additional certifications.

Oh, and we also achieved the authorized ShoreTel Champion partner level (see the Press Release below). This is an exciting upgrade to our portfolio of services. With all that we do for our clients, it seemed that "officially" moving into the VOIP space that ShoreTel addresses, not only complements what we already offer, but will significantly improve the level of service we provide to our clients.

So there you have it. We're poised for 2013 to be a great year and wish you all success!

We hope you enjoy the content in this month's newsletter, including our latest live Webinar: Best Practices in Mobile Device Management. Last month we had such a great turnout for our webinar on Best Practices in Business Continuity and Disaster Recovery, that we've scheduled it again this month as well.

Enjoy the newsletter, check out the new webinar, and here's to a HIGHLY prosperous 2013 for all of us!

New Year's Tech Resolutions: Best Digital Practices for 2013

Losing weight and quitting smoking are resolutions most of us don't keep through January. But there are ways to improve your online security, PC hardware performance and even financial bottom line that require little vigilance and just a few mouse clicks. You don't even need to break a sweat.

Hard Truths About Cloud Differences

Every medium to large-sized company must understand today's different cloud computing approaches -- and pitfalls. We're long into the hype cycle of cloud computing. That means clear criteria to assess and evaluate the different options are critical. Which of the many cloud approaches should medium to large enterprises take to optimize their data center operations?

Social Networking – Organic? Strategic? or Gaming a System?

Now that social media is used by more businesses, it’s become clear that there is a right (and wrong) way to use it. Social media is supposed to be an authentic and transparent online conversation with your peers – not a marketing ploy or a way to pull one over on your prospects. It’s designed to allow people like you and me to share information that we like. If others like what we share, they share it too, and sometimes something you share “goes viral.”

Protecting Information in the Cloud

As attractive as cloud environments can be, they also come with new types of risks. Executives are asking whether external providers can protect sensitive data and also ensure compliance with regulations about where certain data can be stored and who can access the data. CIOs and CROs are also asking whether building private clouds creates a single point of vulnerability by aggregating many different types of sensitive data onto a single platform.

New Year's Resolution Tips for Busy People

It’s that time of year again, another new year. If you have read any popular blogs lately, seems like everyone is talking about “the time to set goals.” Even one visit to a local bookstore will remind you what you already know: “You can be better, successful, healthy, and rich, if only you’ll set goals and work toward them.” Why is it, then, that people we all know (maybe you included) fail to achieve new year’s resolutions? Many people simply don’t even make them anymore. Perhaps the idea itself has a bad reputation. Let’s start with the word itself:

How Can I Make Deadlines Less Stressful?

Deadlines can be incredibly stressful (even the word sounds ominous: "DEADLINES"). The closer we get to a deadline, tension mounts and we start to feel like we're running out of time. However, even though we can't control time or get rid of deadlines altogether, it is possible to turn that pressure into a more positive force rather than a panic-inducing one. Here are a few tips for eliminating deadline stress.

9 Ways You're Ruining Your Online Reputation

We all behave like idiots at times. It’s been that way since the dawn of civilization. The one saving grace has always been that only a privileged few ever got to see us say or do dumb things. Until now.

What you say and do in the privacy of your own home is your own business. But what you post on LinkedIn, Twitter, and Facebook is not only read by hundreds, thousands, even millions of people, it’ll be there until the end of time.

Email Marketing: How to Master the Campaign Platform of Kings

Persuasive email campaigns are a long studied art and science, of particular interest to copywriters. If you’ve ever watched HBO's hit series, Game of Thrones, you’ve seen key political figures try to outflank one another in bloody campaigns to win the highest office of the land, the Iron Throne. In the show, based on the best selling fantasy novels by George R. R. Martin, ravens are used as messengers between heads of military camps who all live in a land sadly devoid of the Internet. It was homing pigeons that were used in real military campaigns as far back as the 6th century BC, and even as recently as World War II, to carry important information back and forth over enemy lines. What on earth do pigeons have to do with email marketing?

What Matters Now

What Matters Now

by Chip Heath and Dan Heath

Gary Hamel's latest book, What Matters Now: How to Win in a World of Relentless Change, Ferocious Competition, and Unstoppable Innovation, is a must-read for anyone who wants to succeed in today's world of fast-paced change and increased competition. According to Hamel, top-down, bureaucratic management models designed to control no longer work in a time when new communication tools such as Twitter allow anyone to rally support, get attention, and topple political systems.

Rather, great leaders need to focus on creating transparent, authentic, meaningful relationships with their customers and employees. Hamel writes about Values, Innovation, Adaptability, Passion and Ideology as leadership qualities that are essential to success and the need to reinvent management in order to build an organization that can withstand tremendous change and competition.
