Solution

Implement the FPA Solution for Computer Monitoring and Surveillance using Spector CNE

What is Spector CNE?

Spector CNE is user productivity monitoring software, which allows authorized users to install, configure, record, and review Internet and PC activity across a computer network. Spector CNE will archive complete records of every email sent and received, every chat conversation and instant message, every web site visited, every keystroke typed, every application launched and record detailed pictures of PC activity via periodic screen snapshots.

After installing Spector CNE the software sends an invisible file to the computers to be monitored. The authorized user can then launch the program from any PC on the network. Select the specific PC that is being recorded on the network, and Spector will automatically retrieve the recorded data and load it into the Spector viewer. All configurations are automated for each PC on the network.

What are its benefits?

Spector CNE can patrol staff PCs and enforce a company's Internet Access Use Policy to protect the business, save money and increase employee productivity, while at the same time allowing staff sensible access to the Internet. Program features make monitoring confidential company information easier. Employees can reach their highest potential of productivity while at the same time saving the company money--less unnecessary time online and more time completing work-related tasks. Having access to recorded communication and PC activities can also be security in the event an employee is partaking in illegal activities or offensive conduct. Unmanaged PC and Internet use, even when protected by a firewall and anti-virus software, can lead to security breaches in addition to draining bandwidth. Even the downloading of pirated MP3 files can drain bandwidth, in addition to opening the firm up to prosecution for copyright infringement. Businesses can now take preventative measures toward their staff distributing inappropriate material, accessing webmail or visiting malicious websites, and unwittingly downloading virus-ridden files that could penetrate even the most protected network. Spector CNE becomes a company's full PC surveillance solution.

Spector CNE contains the following capabilities:

  • Record - Record incoming and outgoing emails, instant messages, chats, key strokes, files downloaded, applications launched, and web sites visited. There is also a tool for taking periodic pictures of displayed items on the user's screen while active on the PC.
  • Archive - The archived information collected by Spector CNE is saved in the Data Vault, a hidden backup system. Information is automatically archived on a server in chronological order. There are three ways in which to run the archiving feature: 1) Centralized Archiving on a single network server, 2) Centralized Archiving on a Multiple Network Server, or 3) Localized Archiving on a local PC hard Drive. Any of the three ways allows the authorized user access to the Data Vault from any computer. Recordings are encrypted and password protected every step of the way. No deletions are ever final because the program records and saves the files into the Data Vault where a copy of every activity is stored and protected by layers of security walls.
  • Review - The Spector CNE Viewer automatically retrieves archived information from the selected computer for review. It then organizes it with activity type tabs (e.g. Email, Websites Visited, Chat/IM, Keystrokes Typed, Programs Run, and Snap Shots) for a user-friendly view and utility. The authorized user can review the information from any computer on the network and choose to search archives by keyword or phrase, or scan through the tabs by activity type. Each activity listed is listed together along with the computer users log-in name, the date, time, and data. Even passwords can be reviewed.
  • Manage - The Control Center allows authorized users to remotely manage, configure, and monitor all PCs on the network. Easily block access to previously visited web sites, receive alerts when selected keywords appear in an email, instant messages, web addresses or text files, and expand its connection to new computers as the company grows.

The Technical Process for FPA's Solution for Computer Monitoring and Surveillance

FPA works with firms to identify how they can best put the Spector CNE to use in their organization. This process involves developing an overall Internet Acceptable Use Policy along with setting rules for the diverse roles and needs within the firm. To be effective, the software must work in accordance with how the firm works. And for legal purposes, it is important that staff are informed of the policy and repercussions of breaking the policy, in addition to being alerted that their web activity may be monitored and analyzed. Therefore, we often work with our clients to create and help implement a formal Computer Acceptable Use Policy. Deployment of Spector CNE is simple and undetectable.

FPA begins by installing the Spector CNE software onto the network, positioning it to "sniff" Internet traffic and PC usage according to the firms needs. This is usually on a dedicated workstation.  After successful installation, the configuration process begins based on the agreed reporting parameters.
